Parkdale History in a Dozen Maps!

Parkdale has a history as diverse as it’s present. When Champlain arrived in 1509 at Quebec City the Nutrals lived in our area. They were close to the Hurons. The Iroquois, armed by the Dutch and Americans invaded this area for the lucrative fur trade and drove out all others by 1550. Their continuing expansion eventually brought them into conflict with an Ojibway alliance that in turn pushed them out of Ontario. The Ojibway group that settled in our area was the Mississaugas. They were still here when the British arrived.

Did you know that in 1757 we were already called Toronto, we had a fort near the foot of Dufferin St and we spoke French.
