Queen St W In 1996 South Side

See amazing detail using the latest technology.
Photos compliments of the Parkdale BIA. Go back about 20 years for a detailed look at downtown Parkdale after the the Queen – Roncesvalles bridge and the Amusement Park were replaced by the Gardiner resulting in 40 years of decline.  The Parkdale recovery is more recent than generally believed. See the, very much appreciated, comments, at the end of the article, for the source of this new dating.

To: Patrick, Parkdaler, Timothy Comeau and Steven T, I did some research. According to OpenDataToronto http://opendatatoronto.com/business.php?id=B500234817 The license for Blockbuster Video at 1365 Queen Street West was issued in 1995 and closed in 1998. the blue awning bearing the name ‘Blockbuster’ is somewhat aged so I propose to date the pictures as 1996, to make a long story short. I appreciate the contribution you have all made to Parkdale’s history. Thank you.

  2. Patrick says:

    a) This is really cool.

    b) I think you might mean 1990’s?

    c) I’m amazed at how many businesses are still there today.

Definitely not the 70s… Blockbuster did not start in Canada until the 90s.

Considering the video stores in these photos, these aren’t from the ’70s – more like late 80s/early 1990s?
